About Angel Island: Written by Chinese-American composer Huang Ruo (M. Butterflly, An American Soldier, Book of Mountain and Seas), Angel Island is a poignant multimedia experience scored for voices and string quartet that blurs the boundaries of opera, theater, dance, and music.

It revisits the time period between 1910-1940 when the immigration center in the middle of San Francisco Bay detained Chinese migrants who were banned from entering the U.S. under the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882.
