CAA Mentorship Program Application

The deadline for applications to the Chinese Adoptee Alliance (formerly FCCNY) Mentorship Program has been extended through Saturday, October 8th! Note that we are prioritizing mentee applications but also welcome mentor applications to our waitlist.

---

The application for CAA’s Mentorship Program for Chinese Adoptees, mentees (ages 10-17) and mentors (18+), is now open!

We are now in the fourth year of CAA’s Mentorship Program! We hope to continue providing opportunities for Chinese adoptees to create long-lasting relationships. Our goal is to foster a strong community within FCC and allow young adoptees to have role models with similar identities and life experiences.

Program Capacity

This year, the program will be open to 20 people (10 mentees and 10 mentors). Consistent with previous years, there will be a limited amount of space. We encourage you to apply early to claim these spots!

In the case that all spaces are filled before the deadline (September 30th), a waitlist will be enabled. We will not be accepting late applications.

Registration Process

In order to register, you must log into your membership account (join or renew your membership if you have not already).

Applicants must have active membership, but do not have to be located in the New York area, as we will be meeting virtually over Zoom. We are so glad to continue to offer this program to people outside of the New York area!

Once you have submitted an application to be a mentee or mentor, a member of the Mentorship Committee will reach out to you to set up an informal interview with you. This process is to help us find the most suitable mentor/mentee matches.

For mentees applying:

Using their Membership accounts, parents may register their children as mentees. Mentees can be anywhere between 10 and 17 years old.

If accepted, the price for mentees will be $150 ($20 per additional child). This contribution allows us to provide materials for special events throughout the year.

Payment will be requested after the informal interview and before the start of the program. If you are unable to pay at this time, please email us to see what we can work out.

For mentors applying:

Prospective mentors can sign up through their Young Adult membership accounts, and should be 18 years or older.

If accepted, the price for mentors will be $20. This contribution allows us to provide materials for special events throughout the year.

Payment will be requested after the informal interview and before the start of the program. If you are unable to pay at this time, please email us to see what we can work out.

Program Schedule

This program will launch in late October and will end in June. We ask that all participants commit to the entire duration of the program.

There will be two meetings per month: one meeting in your small group ("pod") and one meeting with all mentors and mentees.

Each pod will have two mentors and two mentees. We have found that smaller groups are more conducive to deeper discussions and stronger personal relationships. We also hope that our mentees feel encouraged to bond with more than one older adoptee.

We hope that with the larger group (with all participants in the mentorship program) will enable large-scale discussions and enable participants to feel closer to the adoptee community.

Next Steps

Applications open on September 14th and close September 30th

After applying, all applicants can expect to receive a follow-up email from one of the mentorship program committee members to conduct an informal interview so that we can get to know you (or your child) better! Interviews will be conducted on a rolling basis.
