2019 Fashion Competition - Meet the Judges

China Institute's Fashion Design Competition is an annual event showcasing up-and-coming contemporary Chinese designers inspired by Chinese tradition, art, and culture.

 

Meet the finalists below and join us at China Institute on Saturday, April 6 for a live fashion presentation and awards ceremony! The winning designer receives a $10,000 award.


About the Event: Opens with a panel discussion "China Cool: How Next Gen Designers are Defining a New Culture" featuring competition judges and past fashion competition contestants. Following the discussion, we will announce the 2019 Design Competition winner. 

 

Attendees are invited to stay for a cocktail reception and fashion showcase where the finalists will present their collections.

5:05 pm - Sustainability in Fashion Initiative, Susan Rockefeller

To evaluate the young designers' submissions, China Institute assembled a board of renowned judges with diverse backgrounds at the intersection of art, fashion and design. The judges are: Harlan Bratcher, Global Business Development Head at JD Fashion; Hazel Clark, Professor of Design Studies and Chair of Fashion at Parsons School of Design; Simon Collins, Founder CEO, WeDesign.org; Bil Donovan, Artist-in-Residence at Dior; Karen Van Godtsenhoven, Associate Curator of the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute; and Mary Wang, fashion writer and editor.
