FCCNY YA Monthly Discussion

Rachel and Hannah will be facilitating a monthly discussion group
for Young Adult Chinese adoptees!

Their first meeting will be held Saturday September 15th,
11am-1pm, in a Midtown East Manhattan office.
Exact location will be provided upon registration here with your YA account.

We would like to facilitate discussion about topics such as racial identity development, racism and discrimination, and feelings about being adopted. The goal is for us to share and explore similarities and differences in our experiences in a supportive setting. We can talk about past, present, and future conflicts and interesting situations and relationships with family, friends, strangers, dating, and society-- all relating to our adoption from China.

The discussion groups will be held once a month. The approximate time frame is 2 hours, but this can be flexible and subject to change. Each meeting will have a different theme; a set of suggested, potential discussion topics and questions. We will be open to suggestions for future topics.

The main “ground rule” for the discussion meetings is to ensure confidentiality. To facilitate openness and comfortability, everyone must agree to keep discussion content and personal disclosures within the group (unless you give everyone permission to repeat what you said to outsiders). Additionally, everyone must maintain respect for others’ opinions, viewpoints, and subjective experiences.

The goal is to connect and talk about experiences and feelings that non-Chinese adoptees can’t necessarily relate to.

** This forum is only open to Chinese Adoptees ages 18 and older. We will be speaking from personal experiences and this event is inclusive of all genders and orientations. Please respect that all personal information that is discussed is to be kept private and not to be shared outside of the forum. This forum is not being moderated by a therapist or an expert; this is not meant to replace professional help. Advice-giving is discouraged. **
