According to legend, it was Huangdi, the Yellow Emperor, who first taught martial arts to the Chinese people during the Xia Dynasty nearly 4,000 years ago. Today, there are hundreds of different Chinese martial arts styles being practiced by people all around the world. In this workshop, families will be introduced to Shaolin kung fu by an instructor from the New York Chinese Cultural Center. This program is a part of Chinese American: Exclusion/Inclusion, an exhibit which examines the history of trade and immigration between China and the United States.
